Globally, rotavirus remains the leading cause of diarrheal deaths in children under five years old. In the Philippines, 6,500 cases were reported in 2023 and the number of deaths is high in children under one year of age.
Currently, there is no specific drug available to treat rotaviruses hence prevention is key. While good hygiene practices like handwashing are crucial, they alone cannot fully prevent the spread of rotavirus. Rotavirus vaccination provides the best defense against rotavirus infection in children. At Faberco, we have a liquid bovine human reassortant rotavirus pentavalent vaccine that is safe, efficacious, WHO-prequalified and HTAC*-approved.
We conduct Continuing Medical Education to provide healthcare professionals information on the latest medical developments for their patient care. To date, we have reached approximately 400 doctors in advocating for the importance of rotavirus vaccination.
In February 2024, the Department of Health issued a circular officially adding Rotasiil to the Philippine National Formulary, thereby qualifying it for potential inclusion in the National Immunization Program.
